Is There Passive Vaping? Everything You Need to Know
Share
E-cigarettes have become a popular option for those who want to cut down or quit smoking in recent years. However, an important question that concerns many is whether passive vaping exists and whether it is dangerous for those around them. In today's article, we will look at what exactly e-cigarette vapor contains and whether we should be concerned about its effect on non-vapers.
What is Passive Vaping?
As with traditional smoking, with vaping, when someone exhales the vapor from an e-cigarette, it is released into the air and can be inhaled by others. This indirect exposure is called passive vaping.
The main difference compared to a conventional cigarette is that there is no combustion, so no tar or carbon monoxide is released. However, this does not mean that vaping is completely harmless.
What Does Electronic Cigarette Vapor Contain?
The vapor produced by the electronic cigarette and exhaled into the air contains:
- Propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), the main ingredients of the liquid.
- Nicotine (depending on the liquid used).
- Aromatic substances.
Is Passive Vaping Dangerous?
Scientific evidence shows that passive vaping is clearly less harmful than passive smoking. However, it is not completely harmless. Exposure to nicotine and other substances, even at low levels, can affect:
Small children and infants.
Pregnant women.
People with respiratory problems or allergies.
For this reason, many experts recommend not vaping indoors when other people, especially vulnerable people, are present.
What Does the Law Say About Vaping in Public Places?
In Greece and many other countries of the European Union, vaping in closed public spaces is prohibited, precisely for the protection of non-vapers. Especially in places such as schools, hospitals, and means of transportation, strict rules apply, as for traditional smoking.
Vaping may be a less harmful option for smokers, but we must also protect those who don't vape .
